KERUB is the electronic music expression of Toronto-by-way-of-Vancouver based artist, Vi Levitt. Borrowing elements from their classical background as a musician, KERUB explores themes of gender and genre bending through their unique sound design with burgeoning percussive elements layered over a variety of samples and instruments, all brought together by the richness of their ethereal voice. This is KERUB’s debut album, released independently with help from New Motion for cassette distribution.

The opening track “Remorse,” invites a journey through a hyperpop-inspired landscape. “No remorse for my condition” KERUB sings, echoing through layers of driving hi-hats and an eerie synth pad.

“Faded in Omelas” begins with an ephemeral ambience that quickly expands into a hopeful background with elements of percussion that are reminiscent of both breakcore and hyperpop, and the masterful work of the late SOPHIE.

Every track that follows deeply tells its own story, all while staying true to a cohesive sound design that paints with the fundamentals of jungle, breakcore, hyperpop, ambient, trip hop, noise, and shoegaze.

“Maxima,” the second last track, seems to take inspiration from Latinx dance music, with driving percussion, pitched up indistinguishable vocals, and a music-box-esque melody all harmonizing to create a beautifully moving track.

Overall, this album encapsulates the work of a talented musician with a refined ear, a deep well of emotional power and inspiration that absolutely needs to be shared.
